The film Emerging Thailand: The Spirit of Small Enterprise was broadcasted on Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV) on Sunday, June 16 at 10:30 a.m. on Channel 21. The broadcast also aired a discussion following the Chicago premiere of the film at the International House in May. Two more broadcasts of the film and discussion followed on June 17 at noon on Channel 21 and June 21 at 8:00a.m. on Channel 19.

There were two public screenings of the film in Spring 2013.

The Boston premiere was held on Tuesday, April 23 on the MIT campus. The screening was sponsored by the group Thai Students at MIT who hosted a short reception prior to the screening. Following the film, Townsend answered questions signed copies of his new book, Chronicles from the Field (MIT Press, 2013), which tells the story of the challenges and rewards that come from tracking a country's economic development.

The Chicago premiere was held on May 16th on the campus of the University of Chicago and was co-sponsored by the International House's Global Voices Lecture Program. The screening was preceded by a reception and an introduction from Professor Townsend, in which he explained the context of his 15-year data collection project. After the film, Townsend engaged in a question-and-answer session with the audience.
